If you’ve answered
“Yes” to more than one of these above questions, then you have a PERSONA!
The human brain is
unique in many ways. It has taken us 350 million years to develop the sophisticated
brain we currently have and we are blessed with memory, complex thought
processes, intricate communication and the ability of rapidly learning new
tasks. We have gone from the most primitive reactions (produced in the
reptilian brain, or R-complex) to increasingly high brain activity in the pre-frontal
cortex. However, just like many things in life, a gift often comes with its set
of strings attached. In this case, the evolution of the human brain has become
a double-edged sword. The same processes that help us learn from our
environment, absorb multifaceted information, adhere to social rules, and be
innovative, creative, and highly intelligent, is the same process that causes
all of our social, political, financial, and health problems in the world
today.
The learning processes
on which we rely are erroneous as they fail to utilize one of our most powerful
tools: intuition. Through social
conditioning, punishments and rewards, sensitization, habituation, and the
powerful media influences, we have all become infected with mental viruses.
Though many people refer to such viruses by different names (like Freud’s Ego, Dawkin’s
Memes, etc), identifying it is just the first step. One must go further by eliminating
the negative thought processes and to tune in to the inner self.
